Buying from a licensed breaker
Why does it matter that a breaker is licensed?
A car is classed as hazardous waste until its fuel, oil, coolant, battery and airbags have been safely removed. Only an Authorised Treatment Facility is allowed to do that and to break the car for parts. Buying from an unlicensed breaker means the parts may have come from a car that was never depolluted properly, or never belonged to the seller.
How do I check your licences are real?
Every number on this page is on a public register run by the Environment Agency or Companies House. Use the check links next to each one, search for our number or for JAX Car Breakers, and the entry will match what is shown here.
What is an Authorised Treatment Facility?
An ATF is a site the Environment Agency has permitted to store, depollute and dismantle end of life vehicles. It is the only kind of site allowed to issue a Certificate of Destruction when a car is scrapped, and it has to meet rules on drainage, storage and record keeping.
Can I have a copy of these documents?
